On The Move

Recently when trying to move house, I came across a problem! It was essential I found the best letting agents Madrid has to offer. I found this difficult though. Eventually I found the perfect choice and I was delighted with the way things turned out.

I am now living in a modern 2 bed flat just south of Madrid in a brilliant, safe area. Moving in wasn’t too fun as there was a lot of work to do and I dislike packing and unpacking all my things! But once settled, it was kind of refreshing to have a nice place.

Happy days!

Shopping in Madrid

Madrid offers conference goers great shopping opportunities whether it be at the designer boutiques, department stores, local specialist stores or the fabulous food markets there’s lots of variety to suit every taste. Be sure to make the effort to visit the different zones of the city and enjoy the wonderful sights and culture of the city. If you get lost or need a little direction the Madrid locals will show you the way.

Good Neighbours

As I do every summer, I was dropping by my neighbours house to feed their cat while they were catching some sun as they travelled to a Convention in Madrid.  A normal visit usually consists of collecting the post, watering the plants, and feeding the cat before locking the door and skipping back to my little house. This time was slightly different, as I was picking up the post from the well-used welcome mat, I noticed an important looking letter marked with red ink. My good neighbour had told me that I was to open anything of this importance. As I did, my stomach turned. My friend’s house was going to be put through the process of repossession.

It was very strongly written and scared me, I suddenly realised that breaking this news to my friend who was enjoying their holiday and enjoying the Convention wasn’t the best but perhaps the only option I had. There was little hope as I had read somewhere that very same week about ways to prevent repossession.

I decided I had to tell them, luckily they were able to sort things out as soon as they got home. I will never forget that day, my experience of repossession wasn’t nice at all.

Trouble Back Home

I don’t normally take time off work for a holiday, however this year I promised myself I was going to get away no matter what. I had found a brilliant house in the heart of Madrid, as soon as I saw it I knew that was the location for my break. I had only been once before years ago when I was invited to attend a madrid convention. So there I was, sipping fresh orange juice by the pool when my mobile phone started ringing. This was a bit of a shock, it hadn’t made a noise all week. It was bad news. My house renovations had been the subject of further developments and the workload had almost doubled. I panicked and immediately called my brother who got onto a skip hire london company who provided us with a solution. I owe a lot to him, he sorted the rest of the job out and now the house looks amazing. In terms of re selling my house, the renovations were a game changer and in the current climate it is a huge advantage. When i do sell, I fancy a few more trips to Madrid!

Getting to Madrid

The video belows describes ways to travel to Madrid…

Stranded in Madrid!

When XL airways went down, I was one of the few Brits that were stranded in Madrid. I had the best time in Spain, and just as we were getting ready to leave, this blow hits us. You’d think I would be happy, it means more time in Madrid, only I had work to go to the next day, and the hotel had kicked us out. Getting another room last minute would have cost us more than the entire holiday put together. We ended up sleeping, eating, basically living in Madrid airport. It was not the best, we needed showers, a comfortable place to sleep, more than anything we needed a way to get home! Finally Flybe pulled through for us and placed more frequent routes from Madrid to Manchester, at a reduced cost for XL stranded passengers.

I couldn’t wait to get out of Spain. As much as I loved Madrid, I could not honestly say the same about the airport.

Red Carnations

I love carnations. Red in particular, I think they are amazing, the beautiful colour and texture. I recently found out carnations are the national flower of Spain. A beautiful flower to match a beautiful country. I have never been to Spain personally, but have seen pictures and heard from people who have been before. After much hinting, my partner decided to take me to Madrid for our anniversary. Madrid was amazing. If I had to base what I thought about the entirety of Spain, on what I thought about Madrid, then I would have to say I want to move to Spain!

I think my partner Is regretting taking me now, as much as he also loved Madrid, I don’t think he is as keen to move there as I am, I keep pestering him about how boring England is, and we should move. He settles for buying me carnations instead. I know it’s a silly dream I have, everything we own and know is here in England, I will just have to make do with the flower to remind me of my time in Madrid.

Sangria in the Sun

Spain is the go to destination for Brits. I personally can’t stand the fact that people would want to go on holiday where there is people from where you come from, swarming the place. It’s just like you are back at home again, the only difference being the time change. Mind you sometimes that’s not even different, for instance in Barcelona the time is exactly the same as England. When I go on holiday I like to experience the different cultures and food and people. This is why I refuse to go to tourist dense areas of any country.

My choice was going to be Madrid this year. A remote part of Madrid, away from the hustle bustle, somewhere I could enjoy tranquillity in the sun, and drink sangria all day long. I wanted to feel like I was actually on holiday, and not have a care in the world. Madrid was a perfect choice. This sangria recipe was discussed at the convention.

I’m A Spaniard in New York!

I am a Spaniard living in America. As much as I love the exchange rate in America compared to the Euro, I have to say I defiantly miss my home town in Madrid. It’s the little things I miss like walking down the street, everyone knowing your name, and waving a friendly hello even if they don’t. In New York things couldn’t be more different, people always seem to be in a hurry, they barge past without even an excuse me, and people are packed on the sidewalks like sardines.

I used to complain about Madrid when I lived there, but now I can appreciate how fantastic it really was. I have to be here for another 6 months, my work has sent me over to open a new office, and then I can return to the Madrid branch. I am counting the days off on my calendar, next time an opportunity like this presents itself, I will make sure I don’t volunteer!
