Wine in Spain has many different comprehensive characteristics. At its best, Spanish wine is considered some of the most sought after wine available, after all the Spanish have been producing wine for around three thousand years and as you can imagine they have become pretty good at it. In fact, some regions have been producing wine since the age of the Caesars and are still going strong today.
Spain has a brilliant reputation for producing high quality wine and for the most part, the Spanish drink mostly red wine. However there are still many other types of wine available all high in quality. The wine sold here can be just as diverse as the country itself. Due to the history of Spanish wine, it is clear that Spaniards will continue to produce fine wine of all varieties.
There are many detailed characteristics about the wine in Spain. Spanish wine is considered some of the world’s unsurpassed and most admired wines. Spain has been producing wine for approximately three thousand years; some regions have been producing wine from the age of the Caesars, and still, to today. This region has a well-merited reputation.
For the most part, Spaniards drink primarily red wine, but this does not mean that hundreds of other types of wines are still available and of the same quality. The wine sold and produced here can be just as diverse as the country is, in itself.
Rose wine also known as “blush” wine after the Californian wine producers considered “rose” to be outdated, is a favourite of many. However it is often looked down on with distaste by wine connoisseurs as it is neither a white wine nor red. Those who visit the yearly Madrid wine convention will argue for and against rose wine late into the night.
Rose wine however is a very versatile fruity wine which can often have a floral or slightly spicy taste which goes well alongside seafood dishes, especially when chilled. It is also an excellent choice for summer drinks out on the patio when accompanying a picnic as it is so light and refreshing.
Rose wines usually come from red grapes which are fermented for just a few days, so not giving enough time for the skins of the grape to change the colour of rose wine to a deep red, as seen in red wine. The actual colour of rose wine will vary and this can be from a gorgeous very pale pink colour through to a very vivid almost purple colour, depending on the technique used for rose wine making and the grapes.
When choosing a good rose wine look for crispness and freshness, while red wine is better with age, rose wine is best when young. The wine should also have balance in acidity if it is to be compatible with food and as they are not “sipping” wines, do not go for expensive bottles.
I have noticed a big shift recently, more and more people are starting to buy wine online.
I’d say the best thing about buying wine online – other than the fact it is fast and easy – is the way you can review your wine first – to increase the chance of you getting the perfect wine.
It’s also a lot easier to get the exact bottle of wine you are looking for – you will find the chance of you finding a rare wine is quite high on the internet these days.
Speaking of rare wines, it’s always a good idea to shop with the smaller online stores. Just as you wouldn’t trust Tesco to handpick your wines in the real world – don’t trust them online either.
Good reasons to buy wine online:
Online Wine Reviews
Find Rare Wines
Get presents or wine gifts delivered straight to the lucky party
Huge Selection of wines
Wines are handselected
Easily compare price
Some of my friends have recently opened an online wine store called www.TheWineCru.com – you may have noticed I have mentionned them in a couple of other blogs – make them your first port of call when you buy wine online.
Theres nothing like a great red wine! My good friend has opened up a shop where you can buy wine online over at www.TheWineCru.com – make sure you pay it a visit… If you are going to buy wine online you may as well get it off a store like this where they hand pick all the wines, rather than a conglomerate megacorp like tesco wines!

Don’t forget our upcoming Wine convention!
You can watch a wine tasting of a great red wine Domaine Astruc Pinot Noir from www.TheWineCru.com here:
The yearly Madrid Wine convention is just around the corner so thought I would post an interesting wine titbit I found!
Nicole Kidman was at the heart of a little controversy yesterday, after she was accussed by a gossip column of drinking white wine whilst pregnant – backstage at the Oscars.
Her publicist later contacted a loose tongued celebrity blogger to set the record straight, insisting she had in fact drank water and lemon zinger tea.
He backed this up with: ‘I know, I was there with her, I cannot remember the last time that Cindy Adams got anything right.’ Closely followed with a healthy dose of: ‘She’s an idiot, and you can quote me.’
