Sangria in the Sun

Spain is the go to destination for Brits. I personally can’t stand the fact that people would want to go on holiday where there is people from where you come from, swarming the place. It’s just like you are back at home again, the only difference being the time change. Mind you sometimes that’s not even different, for instance in Barcelona the time is exactly the same as England. When I go on holiday I like to experience the different cultures and food and people. This is why I refuse to go to tourist dense areas of any country.

My choice was going to be Madrid this year. A remote part of Madrid, away from the hustle bustle, somewhere I could enjoy tranquillity in the sun, and drink sangria all day long. I wanted to feel like I was actually on holiday, and not have a care in the world. Madrid was a perfect choice.

Barbed Wire?

Useful in a variety of different ways, barbed wire doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. It usually just sits there all day, looking dangerous and without a care in the world, usually guarding something or forming the front line in a battle to a space. Put simply, barbed wire is scary and at the same time, pretty ugly. It is not only the shear sharpness of your average barbed blade, but the coiled effect that provides that barrier between the modern world, and anything that wishes to pass.

Barbed wire is, without doubt, a great tool for not just protecting your property, but saying “hello, I am serious about what I am”. I look frightening and I am about to attack you if you come near. Slightly like an escaped jailbird but without the life experience. We all know barbs can be dangerous things and I am not talking about my 19 stone, tracksuit wearing sister-in-law. Seriously though, if barbed wire bores you, get some joseph ticketsand watch a London theatre show!

Watch the Sun

If you find yourself taking a holiday in the boiling hot Spanish summer, then be prepared to burn if you are not protected with sun cream and sensible clothing. Always drink plenty of liquids, especially water and a chilled ice cream is always welcome during long hot summer days in Spain. Madrid is home to a range of great ice cream shops and cafes ready to serve you with a mouthful of delights. The Spanish love their ice cream and always like tourists taking an interest in it.

The Spanish sun is brilliant until people think they can beat it and get a bronze glow without putting sun protection on or shading themselves away from the sun. It is absolutely vital that you aren’t stupid about protecting yourself from the sun, with so many people suffering of skin cancer, you would think everyone would keep themselves safe.

Madrid Locals

The local people of Madrid are always seen as friendly, welcoming people. However if you annoy them and go against what they are used to, they might take a dislike to you! An example of this is you will often find the locals walking round with no shirt on in the warm climate, however if anyone else does this, they find it rude. Of course, this shouldn’t be the case. It is for this reason that arguments have broken out in the past between local people and tourists enjoying the warm weather.

There are of course 2 main football teams in Madrid and Real Madrid also have a fierce rivalry with FC Barcelona. Real Madrid have a star studded team so a trip to a match is a great opportunity to get some football players photos.

You have to understand the local people in Madrid to not offend them. Treat them with respect and they will keep themselves to themselves and welcome you with open arms to their magnificent country, so everyone is happy!

Know The Climate

Summertime in Madrid brings about very hot and dry weather. Millions of people flock to the Spanish capital just to get a piece of the nice climate action. To really enjoy the weather, it is important that you are wearing the correct clothing for the time of year. Typically the summers are very warm and the winters and very cold and bitter. During summer it would be sensible to wear light clothing and perhaps sunglasses to protect your eyes from the blinding hot sun. To stay warm during the cold Madrid winter days, you need to wrap up warm in several layers of clothing.
Madrid can have extremes in terms of weather.

Many tourists visiting any part of Spain will check the local temperatures before they depart, this is good advice. During summer it may not always be acceptable for tourists to walk round with their shirts off, although you may find the local people often do this to keep cool.

Warm Summers, Freezing Winters

Madrid can be a very pleasant place to be, especially around July and August as temperatures can reach 33 and 34 degrees. This places the City a very attractive location for a convention to be held. When many people are fleeing colder countries to get some sun, people can now combine this escape with a convention, gathering together to share a common interest.

Due to its central location and since it is at such a high altitude the climate in Madrid consists of humid dry summers and chilly winters.  There is such a difference in summer and winter climate in Spain that the locals describe the summer months as the ‘3 months of hell’.

This is down to the intense heat, although, it can be this heat that attracts so many people to convention held all over Spain but particularly in the beautiful Capital, Madrid.

Madrid is Real!

What better way to chill out after a convention than checking out the local football team. It just so happens that Madrid is home to one of the best football teams around, Real Madrid. The likes of Beckham, Raul and Ronaldo have played for this great club, who can blame them being one of the biggest and richest clubs in the world. It is true that with greatness comes rewards and these rewards can be shared with people descending on Madrid for a convention. A trip to attend a convention can turn into a mini holiday, taking in a mix of culture, education and entertainment.

The range of atmosphere and environment simply makes Madrid a perfect choice for convention planners. There is nothing better than chilling out after taking in the excitement and learning curve that occurs within a convention. Next time you are in Madrid attending a convention, take time out to take in the brilliance of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, the home of Real Madrid.

Experts in Wine

Wine in Spain has many different comprehensive characteristics. At its best, Spanish wine is considered some of the most sought after wine available, after all the Spanish have been producing wine for around three thousand years and as you can imagine they have become pretty good at it. In fact, some regions have been producing wine since the age of the Caesars and are still going strong today.

Spain has a brilliant reputation for producing high quality wine and for the most part, the Spanish drink mostly red wine. However there are still many other types of wine available all high in quality. The wine sold here can be just as diverse as the country itself. Due to the history of Spanish wine, it is clear that Spaniards will continue to produce fine wine of all varieties.

Increased Safety in Madrid

The number of aggressive crimes is actually currently low. Madrid is now one of the safety cities in Spain thanks to heightened security and the recent addition of about three thousand addition police officers on hand to assist local authorities. These new additions are in place to protect the natives to the towns and the villages as well as the tourists and holiday makers.

The safety of Madrid wipes out any safety worries and makes it a popular choice. To assist people all over the Spanish capital, Mobile Assistance Points (MAP) have been setup in areas such as bus stations, plazas and airports. Visitors to these locations can fill out forms at a MAP and will not need to visit a police station to report their issue.

Madrid’s Environment

Madrid is full of green spaces and parkland, in central Madrid the largest park is Parque del Retiro, spreading out to the north-east of Atocha Railway station, which receives the high- speed AVE trains from the south and east as well as Cordoba and Seville. Atocha station has become a hothouse destination in itself for plant lovers, with more than 500 species of plant life and ponds with turtle and goldfish in, as well as shops and cafes. It’s home to a fairground, zoo and an outdoor municipal pool, to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the park and city take a cable car trip above the tree tops.

There is an important research facility that started life as a base to develop herbal remedies and to house the species collected from the new-world trips, today it is dedicated to maintaining Europe’s ecosystem. The environment only makes it easier for convention goers to enjoy their time in Madrid which is why it is such a popular destination for convention planners.
