Recent figures reveal that the travel industry is changing. The effects won’t be felt for another few years yet, but what we are seeing is that gap years are no longer the preserve of the student population or twenty something career breakers looking for a gap year experience experience. It largest growth area is in the 55+ bracket or grey gaps as they are becoming known as. The south east Asian stomping grounds of Thailand, Laois, Cambodia and Vietnam are still popular, but grey gaps are looking for a little more luxury and have the cash to afford it too. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects traditional city break locations such as Madrid. The gap year Thailand set could become an interesting mix of young and old.
